Except the overuse of these words as replacements for “said” makes your writing appear amateurish. Be wary of that. The word “said” disappears after a line of dialogue. It’s simply an indicator of who’s speaking. If you can’t get across how the line was spoken by that character without using one of these descriptors, then maybe you should rewrite the line.
